The Perjurers (Izzo, Finamore, Hoffman, Kiley) defeated The Drug Cheats (Mrowka, Cornish, Bayne, Parini) by an innings and 56 runs
A commanding 324 by Chris Izzo has guided The Perjurers to a crushing innings defeat of The Drug Cheats in one of the shortest Australia Day Tests on record. Despite setting his team up for a massive win, there was one short element of disappointment for Izzo, falling just 7 runs short of the all time record of 331 set by Aidan Parham on Australia Day 2010.
In Test that was starting to look more like a limited overs game, The Drug Cheats were quickly accounted for by The Perjurers in their first innings of only 13.2 overs, with only a quick-fire 36 off 10 deliveries by Parini and 63 off 51 by Mrowka being the only scores in double figures. All bowled well for The Perjurers, with Kiley the only multiple wicket taker with a haul of 2/18 including a wicket maiden.
In reply, The Perjurers top order all made starts, but none managed to progress past 36. Enter Izzo. His 324 demoralised The Drug Cheats and sapped all energy out of the field.
Set a total 305 just to make The Perjurers bat again, the only resistance put forward by The Drug Cheats came by virtue of 88 balls of Mrowka, wherein he thwacked a gallant 193, ultimately falling short of the double century and the required total.
With The Drug Cheats second innings ending all out for 248, The Perjurers were handed victory by an innings and 56 runs - one of the soundest defeats in the long history of the Australia Day Test.
A short series of Ten10 matches followed, being notable primarily for having no team see out their full allotment of 10 overs at any point. The Ten10 series also resulted in a number of charges to be investigated by the Svenson Match Review Panel (SMRP), including:
- Simon Hoffman - Not playing to his utmost - For allegedly deliberately dropping a catch spooned by Sarah Boyle;
- James Finamore - Match fixing, not playing to his utmost - For allegedly deliberately spooning a catch to Simon Hoffman thereby losing the match for Glenncricket; and
- Daniel Kiley - Bringing the game into disrepute.
